The After Party!
NOT ANOTHER SCREENWRITING GROUP!
Yes. It is totally another screenwriting group. This one is kind of cool though so read on!
THE AFTER PARTY —
Is a private online screenwriting group comprised of 5150 Workshop members and alumni, Left Door alumni, and AFW students and course alumni. It is housed in the private The After Party forum in TheAFW’s main forum, and available to current and former Max screenwriting students and workshoppers.
This membership is available to 5150 Workshop members who are inactive at present but wish to remain connected to and engaged in the workshop community without posting and reviewing responsibilities, to former Left Door members, and to current and former AFW students who wish to stay connected to fellow students and writers, stay involved in the AFW community, and retain access to AFW resources outside of and between classes.
After Party membership is $120 a year paid via subscription and gives After Party members access to the private After Party forum, alumni community, to private AFW library resources, and to private alumni chats held each month.
For me, this is a way to bring everyone together in an online community without everyone still having workshop posting and reviewing responsibilities, in a private (politics free!) community online.
After Party membership is gratis for current and active 5150 members who have passed the first quarter mark.

See we have workshop members who for one reason or another cannot fulfill uploading and reviewing responsibilities in workshop, and so they have to leave the workshop and then they are cut off.
Well cut off no more! Now there is an option to stay part of the community without the posting and reviewing responsibilities.
Another element is students. While students are in classes they have access to each other and to Max and to AFW resources. But after classes let out? No more access. Oh nos!
Not any more! Now you can retain access outside of and between classes plus you get access to the broader alumni community. Yay!
Also, this allows us to schedule regular alumni chats, which are now held once a month for After Party members in a dedicated private After Party chatroom. Yay!
(We have missed you, Alumni Chats. We just couldn’t always hammer out the time to schedule and organize them and get the word out on an impromptu basis. Now they are regularly scheduled and held in the After Party private chatroom. Yay!)
The After Party membership is $120 for a one year subscription. That’s ten bucks a month. We figured that was fair.

ARE THERE POSTING & REVIEWING REQUIREMENTS IN THE AFTER PARTY?
No. That’s the point. To allow people to stay a part of the community even if they cannot meet workshop participation requirements posting and reviewing right now.
I WANT TO SUBSCRIBE BUT CAN’T REMEMBER MY FORUM LOGIN?
Go ahead and subscribe without logging in. We’ll fix the forum identity duplication on our end.
WHAT IF I’M CONCENTRATING ON NOVELS NOW INSTEAD OF SCREENPLAYS?
We don’t mind your dark side prose shenanigans. We still love you and want to hang out with you.

IS THERE A MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION OPTION?
Sorry, not at this time. It takes some heavy lifting to get this off the ground and up and running and that doesn’t allow us time to work with monthly subscriptions at this time.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I’M A 5150 MEMBER AND TAKE A WORKSHOP LEAVE OF ABSENCE?
If your inclusion in After Party is currently based on your 5150 membership and you take a workshop leave of absence, you must purchase an After Party subscription to remain in The After Party and maintain After Party private forum access and priveleges.
IF I’M A MEMBER OF AFTER PARTY AND JOIN OR RE-JOIN 5150 DO I GET MY AFTER PARTY SUBSCRIPTION FEE BACK?
Sorry, no. We give active 5150 members After Party membership as an additional workshop perk but it’s not actually included in workshop dues and if you’re joining or rejoining, we don’t plan to pay you your subscription fee when you join or rejoin workshop. You will no longer need to re-up your After Party subscription though to participate in After Party while you are an active 5150 workshop member.
IF I JOIN 5150, DOES THAT AUTOMATICALLY GET ME AFTER PARTY MEMBERSHIP?
If you’re a workshop member in good standing rejoining 5150 after a leave of absence, yes.
If you are a brand spanking new 5150 workshop member and still in your first quarter, no.
New workshop members must successfully complete a first quarter in workshop before they receive full workshop status and qualify for After Party membership.
IF I REGISTER FOR AN AFW CLASS, DOES THAT QUALIFY ME FOR AFTER PARTY MEMBERSHIP?
Not just on registration alone.
An AFW student must successfully complete a six week AFW master class to be eligible to join The After Party.
DOES LAB PARTICIPATION QUALIFY ME FOR AFTER PARTY MEMBERSHIP?
Sorry. No. Labs are great but are not indicators of ability or staying power and are not After Party qualifiers.
DOES TAKING A MAX VIDEO COURSE QUALIFY ME FOR AFTER PARTY MEMBERSHIP?
Sorry. No. We appreciate you taking the video course and hope you enjoyed and benefitted from it. That’s cool. But watching the video course does not demonstrate the qualities we need to see in alumni members for acceptance into The After Party.
IF I HATE THE AFTER PARTY DO I GET MY MONEY BACK?
No. BUT —
Only alumni can join. If you are joining, you are alumni and already know Max and other Max and AFW alumni. Why would you join if you hate Max and other alumni?

WHAT IF I SNEAK A SUBSCRIPTION IN ANYWAY?
We will catch it, reimburse it, and throw you to the curb.
I LEFT 5150 UNDER A DARK CLOUD. CAN I STILL JOIN?
How dark?
If you were struggling with mins and deadlines and Max said “This isn’t working, you are clearly struggling, take a break”? That’s not dark. That’s struggling.
If you were shouting or calling Max names? That’s dark and you’re out.
I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT 5150 IS?
