I should probably just rename this topic #strike!

Anyway,

Got my strike shirts. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, I'm in San Antonio. Solidarity dammit!

"Mini rooms are abominations, and the refusal of the AMPTP to pay writers to stay with their shows through production — as part of the JOB, for which they need to be paid, not as a tourist — is not only wrong, it is incredibly short-sighted." — George R.R. Martin

It's so great to see all the film people come out to support the strike. It keeps going through my head what Snoop Dog said online. That needs to be playing on a loop!

@seemaxrun  I saw live entertainment on the strike line but I wasn't sure who it was.  Did anyone catch that??

@jennifer Not me

Some of you all might recognize some faces on the picket lines. Like Alvaro Rodriguez and Suzanne Griffith.

“How can you afford to pay [Warner Bros. Discovery CEO] David Zaslav $245 million in a single year but you can’t pay six writers?” says Meighan, referring to Zaslav’s stock grant-inflated pay package for 2021. “How is it that you used to be able to pay 12 writers on a staff when the show was on broadcast TV. But now that it’s streaming, six is some ridiculous number? I don’t think the math adds up.”

What may not to be clear to people not in the thick of it is how blatant the AMPTP plan to stone wall was. Over and over again, responses to proposals were a refusal and no counter proposal, or, refusal and "we'll have meetings later."

It wasn't a negotiation. They had no intention of negotiating. It was a stone wall.

One thing everyone should be paying attention to with contests this year is, are these contests sponsored by production entities and/or about providing written material to production entities? If they are, submitting to them is scabbing because it provides material to companies represented by the AMPTP.

This especially applies to competitions clearly named for production entities, like Disney, HBO, and Warner Bros competitions, but includes any competition sponsored by and providing written material to production entities being struck against until the AMPTP returns to the table and negotiates a contract with fair terms for writers of film and television.
