Me: Maybe I will take a break from work and hit social media for some light frivolity.

Social Media: Death! Doom! Destruction! APOCALYPSE!

Me: Maybe I will go back to work for some light frivolity....

@seemaxrun the only bright spot on Twitter for me today was your post.  Still giggling.  And getting the heck off of social media.

Whoah, the weather forecast for Austin says snow tomorrow Sunday. That NEVER happens.

(If anybody needs me tomorrow I will be on the balcony watching for anything resembling a snow flake.)

Today has been a really unusual bird day. This morning a hawk came and hung out in the small enclosure beneath my balcony and tonight a white owl flew past overhead. I see hawks often here, but not hanging out in the little enclosure under the balcony, distant flying hawks. I've never seen the owl before. The owl is like a ghost bird, so fast and pale in the night.

About to sacrifice another birthday to the pandemic. Dammit. On the other hand, I am about to HAVE another birthday during the pandemic. Which means I'm still alive. During a pandemic. That's a win.

It is a balmy 27 degrees in Austin, with a low of 9 predicted.

Texas is not built for this kind of cold. All hell is breaking loose on the roads because no one here knows how to drive on ice.

In other news, this is a historic day for the Max websites. All of AFW is back on the AFW servers and contained within one site now. Seemaxrun and TNSSG are repaired and spruced. I've pulled the last accounts off the old host's servers (the common denominator in the hacker frenzy wars) and all the sites are in one place on (knock wood) dependable servers now. In a week I can finally kill that old hosting account. It probably doesn't look like a lot from the outside but on the back end on the inside this is pretty huge. :::happy sigh:::

The pools froze over.

Power was down when I work up at 7:30 — it just came back up at 11. Yay! It was getting frosty in here. Put food out on the balcony in a bowl for the birds because snow is too deep for them to get to the food I put out for them on the ground. Maybe I need a bird feeder.

Oh, also, we are back up in double digit temps. 14 degrees fahrenheit. Whoohoo! It was 7 degrees when I woke up.

Georgetown boil water notice issued. Last count I saw on boil water notices was something like 400+ I have lost count. I have been boiling water anyway in advance.

Power was on this morning when I woke up. A first in days. Hoping it stays on. It is good to have heat. It's supposed to get up to 30f today. I did not expect to consider 30f "warm" in this lifetime but I do now. It beats the hell out of 7's and 5's.

Best summation I've seen on the situation in Texas is in this Twitter thread: https://twitter.com/ConorKenny/status/1362274022709420033?s=20

Texas: The sky is blue, the temperature is mild, there is a soft breeze, birds are singing —
Me: This is a trick, right?

I love owls! I almost never see them, but I do occasionally hear one outside my house at night.

Sleeps four feet above the covers.

Since I moved in here, the balcony has been barren. I got it some little fairy lights, and I got it some new chairs because the old chairs were in tatters, but that's been it, lights, two chairs, and an ashtray on the concrete patio floor. And it sat that way a long time because I don't have the heart to put any more living plants on a balcony in Texas, Texas weather kills every plant I've ever tried that with and makes me sad. And the old stool I used as a table on the balcony had rusted out so got tossed during the last move. So. Barren balcony. BUT —

I decided to get brave and try out a faux plant, and also saw a little table on Amazon on sale that looked pretty, so I ordered the plant and table and the plant actually looks really nice and so does the table and suddenly my little balcony instead of being a concrete smoker's wasteland is now a little oasis. Yay! Okay, a smoker's oasis, but still, an oasis! Yay!

It makes me happy just walking out there now. Also it's really pretty at night with the fairy lights.

I have to fill out a form and get it notarized that says I am a US citizen who can legally work in the US and am who I say I am for the University of Utah. Okay —

I'm a University of Utah graduate. Some of my instructors still work on campus. Everyone there knows I am who I say I am I am so documented at U of U. But no. That won't do. The government needs another piece of paper saying I am a US citizen and am who I claim to be that is signed by a notary or "trusted individual" (trusted by them not me I guess) BUT — it doesn't need a notary seal. Just a notary signature. WTF? Why get a notary signature if it doesn't require a notary seal?

The mind boggles. But oh well.
