I have used Max Adams’ script consulting services on several occasions. I find the notes Max provides to be the most comprehensive and actionable feedback I have ever received. The notes have drastically improved my screenplays. I also appreciate the in-person meeting that is included with the  consult to allow for questions and clarification of Max’s notes. I highly recommend her services.

I recently hired Max Adams for a consult on a fantasy feature script and she blew my mind. She sent me 32 pages of notes and spent 3 hours with me on zoom. The most interesting part was her approach to giving notes.

No doubt she read the script more than once, no doubt she understood it deeply, and her suggestions were specific and made total sense. Her notes were big picture and small picture, from tone to dialogue to character to even recreating this feature into a TV series.

In five years of getting notes from industry professionals, no one has come even remotely close to Max’s understanding of script writing. She may seem expensive, but she’s worth every penny of it. And way more.

There are a lot of script consultants who can help you clean up your script. Very few have the experience, skill, and insight to help you discover the treasure within your story. Max can do that. Her approach is systematic, providing pages of clear, item-by-item analysis of your script.

She follows this up with a conversation that is rich and thoughtful. She has asked me questions aimed at both personalizing her advice and at pushing me to think more deeply and effectively about my work. And she listens to my questions, providing answers that both clarify my understanding and respond to the questions beneath the questions.

At the end of the process, I’ve been able to create a to-do list and get to work. Even better, I’ve found a renewed enthusiasm for the work.  And in every case, my revised scripts have gotten better receptions. I highly recommend Max. I find her advice invaluable.

I’ve taken every class Max teaches—some, more than once, and I cannot recommend them more. But having an actual consult, with notes that drill down and explain things that could take ages for me to figure out myself is a whole other level of expertise.

Max knows story. What works, what doesn’t work. I can’t say I can instantly figure out how to tackle the problems she points out, but her notes are clear and actionable in non-airy fairy, loosey goosey language. (Always a plus to understand the note before addressing it!) Added bonus, which should really not be bonus at all, Max is most interested in helping you tell the story you want to tell, not what some other more [fill in the blank] writer might write.

There is no one I trust more for a script consultation than Max Adams. She knows what makes a screenplay great and always guides me true. Her notes are detailed and clear and the follow-up phone consultation allows for questions and discussion. I’ve gotten consultations on three scripts, and I’ll be back again as soon as my next script is ready. I simply won’t pitch a script until I’ve gotten notes from Max.

My screenplay EDDY JEAN, inspired by true events, was going nowhere, getting no traction. It was pretty sorry IMO. Max was offering consults – it made all the difference in the world. We worked together to create a captivating opening, a first act that established rich characters and world. The second act escalates, culminates and the third act ends satisfactorily. I may have been able to get there on my own eventually, but I’m not too sure about that. Now EDDY JEAN has won and finaled in numerous contests. It’s immensely satisfying and gratifying to create on paper what was in my head… but I needed Max’s help to make it be its best.

Max gives her all to her script consults. She provides a thorough analysis of story, characters, structure, voice, as well as the small but important details, documented in at least 15 pages of notes. The follow-up 1-2 hour live conversation is an invaluable back and forth discussion of the notes, any questions, concerns or issues the writer may have, as well as help in brainstorming ideas to address issues. She really immerses herself in your story and the writer’s intent.  I felt that Max was a supportive partner in helping me get two of my scripts to a better place, ready to send out. I highly recommend doing it.
